A FREE Class for Teachers and Others in Educational Settings:
Reaching Out to Students Who Need Care
June 24, 2010
The class will be held at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada, Colorado Springs

Teachers are special people! You touch the lives of manyhurting children and teens who may or may not ever receive formal treatment. You may bethe only adult outside of their family they turn to for support and help! Thisclass is also open to counselors, principles and anyone who works with kids andteens!

 

This class is designed to help you: recognize the signs andsymptoms of a hurting child; understand that children and teens often needsymbolic language to express themselves; understand the u-curve model of howhealing happens; understand the difference between listening (your job!) anddiagnosing or listening (the job of psychologists and counselors). Plus, youwill leave the class with tools designed to help you help the students in yourclasses.

 

The class will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 1:00-5:00pm at First United MethodistChurch, 420 N. Nevada, Colorado Springs, CO.

Summer Camp for Grieving Children and Teens
A Time of Healing and Hope!!
July 6-7, 2010
Offered by First Steps Spirituality Center & First UMC, Colorado Springs

Children and teens who are grieving the death of a loved one are welcome to join us for a special camp designed to help them meet others who have also lost loved ones, name their grief and find hope and healing... we will have lots of activities, hiking and time outside, camp fires and fun!!!

The camp is offered at no cost and will be held at the John  Wesley Ranch, Divide, Colorado. Transportation to and from the ranch will be provided.

This will be a joy-filled time and your child will enjoy it, grow because of it, and meet lifelong friends who have shared a similar loss.

Fall Certification Course

The Certification Course is designed by Rev. Leanne Hadleyusing the skills and techniques used at First Steps with hurting children andteens. We hope you will plan to join us this fall!

PLEASE NOTE: First Steps has been offering this class for the past 10 years and it has morphed and changed over the years! If you took the class over 4 years ago, you might want to take it again and learn the new and improved information!

     Understanding and developing the Spiritual Life of Children and Teens

      Helping Children and Teens Connect to Holy Scripture

      Helping Children and teens During Times of Grief, Divorce, and Crisis

        Taking Our Learnings Into The World

The course is perfect for Christian Educators, pastors,teachers, nurses, chaplains, parents and grand parents.

Cost of the program is $250.00 and includes all materialsneeded. Each participant will be awarded a certificate of completion.
