Strong Little Girls!Minimize

I was telling my children at Sunday School--there were about 90 kids, all ages and a nice mix of boys and girls--about Moses and how an evil king was worried about the strength of the Hebrew people so he wanted to have them killed. I told them that he ordered all the male babies under the age of two to be killed, but that he wasn't worried about killing the girls, because he thought girls were weak.

The word "weak" had no sooner come out of my mouth than these kids, the boys and the girls, starting laughing and saying, "He thought girls were weak? He was so stupid! Girls aren't weak!" I mean they were all yelling it and could not believe for one second anyone thought boys were stronger than girls.

I was so happy! We have come a long way! I truly believe that ten years ago the boys and girls would have accepted, without question, that the boys were, in fact, stronger than girls. And the girls would have accepted that girls were so weak they weren't even a threat!

After they went to their classrooms I said a prayer and I have prayed it everyday since:

God, May we all, girls and boys, men and women, know how strong we truly are! May we know it, believe and never forget it... for you are our rock and on you we stand... strong, able, and ready to do your will!

I remember being a little girl and believing I was strong and beautiful and capable... and I know at some point, maybe during my teens years, I started basing my self worth on others opinions. I pray that little girls today keep believing and knowing how strong and beautiful they truly are!

And, I hope you know how truly strong, beautiful, and capable you are!
