| What every Child Needs: An Ear that Hears | |

Where do we begin to help these children? What do they need? There is no shortage of ideas. Perhaps we need more studies about their brains so we can develop better medicines to help them. Perhaps we need to test them more and figure out where their anger is coming from. Perhaps we need look closely at our educational systems and discover why they are angry and failing to thrive. Perhaps the additives in their foods are causing some kind of depression. Perhaps the war is causing this.
There is no shortage of ideas and theories... but while we are discussing all this and deciding what to do and how to fund all these studies, I want to share a simple way we can help children right now!
We can stop being so busy and start listening to them. Children are starving from a lack of attention. They have feelings. Things have happened to them and they are holding their feelings in and have no where to let them out. Is it any wonder that these children are angry, depressed and exhibiting psychiatric disorders?
We are the ones children look to for help and we have the BEST tools to help children--we have hearts that care and ears that hear--and when we start using these, our children will be able to express their feelings in positive ways. I believe many studies need to be done to find root causes and cures for the things that are hurting our children. But in the meantime, we need to listen to them and listen with caring hearts filled with compassion. I know it sounds simplistic, but I believe our hearts and ears can change the world.
Jesus said, "Those who have ears, hear." Our children are crying out for help--will we have the ears to hear their cries? If we do, I believe we will change the world, one child at a time. | | | Permalink | Trackback |
