Anyway, what I want to talk about is my trip from the airport to the college and then from the college to the airport to return home. Britt is attending William Paterson University in New Jersey, so we fly into NYC and take a car from there to New Jersey.
I love New York City and we arrived at night. The city was beautiful--all lit up, and wonderful! I loved being there, seeing it, feeling the energy of it all! I flew him early two days earlier and we took the same route back to New York City that we had taken to the college, only in reverse. The same city, the same road! Only there were no lights since it was daytime. And I looked and the city and it plain, worn out and even ugly in places. If I had not known I was in NYC, I could have been in any city in the U.S.
This started me thinking about something Elizabeth Kubler Ross said when I attended a lecture of hers. She said, "People are like stained glass windows. sort of plain and nothing to look at--but when God's light shines inside them, they are transformed into something beautiful!"
That is what New York City is like--plain, dull, nothing special until the lights come on and then it is magical, beautiful, wonderful.
I know we all think we are plain, dull, even ugly sometimes. I know we feel regular and like there is nothing special about us--but we have light inside--the light of God, of love, of joy...and when we let that out--when we love with all of our hearts and souls, when we laugh without holding back, when we cry and let our true selves come out--we shine! We become the special, wonderful, amazing people we are! We only look dull because we hold our true selves inside!
The lesson I learned in NYC is that it is light that truly reveals who we are! We are special! We are wonderful! We are amazing--so let your true self shine!!!
