| To Cross or Not to Cross | |

It wasn't because I didn't see him, it was because he could not decide whether he wanted to cross or not. You know how it is. The deer was following another deer. The first deer, with great confidence, crossed the road and as the second deer followed, he got afraid. He saw the cars stopped on both sides of him. He was clearly unsure and so he moved forward, as if he was going to cross, and then ran back where he came from. He did this same routine three or four times. And each time he would go back, we, the cars, would start to go and he would once again hop out into the street.
He was confused, unsure and it was pitiful watching him! He just wanted to cross the street and be with the other deer, but he was too unsure to follow.
I have been thinking about how often I act the same way as this deer did! Each day I tell god that I will be faithful, follow where God leads me, be open to God's presence, listen and watch for God. But then, more times than I care to admit, I find myself knowing God is calling, knowing God is trying to lead me, but I get afraid to follow and so I start hesitating, and then I get afraid and then confused and filled with doubt. I act like that deer, seeing where the other deer was, and yet afraid to follow.
St. Francis believed that animals were spiritual teachers for us. I agree, especially today because that little deer reminded me that way too often I am hesitant to follow and I need to let go of my fear and just follow God, trusting that if I follow, God will take care of me!
Now I understand the lesson from my little deer friend...I pray I can do it! I pray you will follow boldly where God calls you. Blessings!! | | | Permalink | Trackback |
