And yet, my phone at First Steps is ringing off the hook with parents and kids asking for help. You would think that since summer is so close, kids and parents would be happy anticipating the fun of summer. But in reality, the last few weeks of school are some of the most stressful! Schools are giving end of semester tests, exams and projects. All the musical kids at church and school are having one last concert. And of course, the sports practices and games never seem to let up. People are invited to graduation receptions and life is just plain hectic.
When life gets stressful, things such as grief, stress related disorders, and frustration levels go up! It is no wonder that my phone is ringing! Parents and kids are stressed!
So what do we need to do? Take a break! Every day, take a five to fifteen minute break! You will be amazed at what a difference it makes! And even better, go for a walk and notice how joyfully God is creating! Buds are on the trees, flowers are starting to bloom and color is returning to our earth! We are stressed, but God is creating joy and we need to notice it...for then we couldn't help but smile, relax and remember that God's love and presence is all around us and our children.
As stress goes up we tend to do ore trying to get everything done so we can relax. But doing the opposite is what we need to do. Take a break first. Reconnect with God, especially in the springtime when things are blooming so magnificently, and there we will find rest for our souls and stress will disappear! | | | Permalink | Trackback |
