 | | Posted by: Leanne | 2/25/2008 1:34 AM | I confess...I am sitting here watching the Academy awards while I write this blog entry and besides hoping all my favorite stars will look beautiful, I am thinking of our children! Well first I am watching all these beautiful movie stars, who have all the money they ever want, who get all this attention being pursued by the paparazzi, who have everything... and still they sit hoping for one more award--one more time when people will affirm and clap for them!
Now I suppose we can talk mean about these people and how they have huge egos that need fed over and over! But before we all rant about their shallowness, I want to remind us that, as people, we all crave attention and to be told that our gifts, talents and our "beings" are of value.
We are really no different from movie stars, or maybe I should say, they are no different from us! And our children are very much like us! They have a deep desire to know that we, the adults in their lives, value them and they need to be told how wonderful they are!
Often, we are afraid to tell children how special and amazing they are because we fear they will become conceited or arrogant--but in reality, by telling them how wonderful they are, we will help build their spirits and make them stronger and more self confident.
Believe me, we live in a world where people often criticize and cut one another down-- children don't need to be humbled, they need to be strengthened. Each day, they do amazing things! Each day they wonder what you think of them. Tell them!!
And so, as I watch the Academy Awards, and hear over and over, "And the winner is..." I can't help but think of the real winners--children... and... parents who aren't afraid to praise them! | | | Permalink | Trackback |
