Knowing What We DeserveMinimize

I just spent the weekend with my grandson. He is eight months old and bless his heart, he was in a strange home (his first visit to my house), a strange bed and while he would go to bed fine, when he woke up, he would have this pitiful terrified look on his face. He would sit up in his little bed and scream, "Mama" which is the only word he can say.

He reminded me of a very powerful, spiritual reality. That when we are afraid, unsure of what tomorrow might bring and need help we, like a baby, can scream, "Mommy" or "Daddy" or whatever word we use for God!

He would scream and his mother would go running to him--not angry that he had called out her name-- not agitated that her baby needed her--but with great pride that first, he knew her name and second, that he knew to call to her when he was scared!

I think many times we are almost afraid to call out to God for help. We fear we are bothering God. We fear our needs might be silly and make God angry.  But I have a feeling that our God who calls God's self, "Mother hen," and "Daddy," reacts to our cries for help much like this mother did.

God is pleased first, that we know and trust God's name and second, that we called God in times of crisis, pain and whenever we need God!

I hope we pray more that during times of crisis--but please, whatever we do, when we hurt and when we need God may we cry out with the same gusto as my grandbaby did for his mom! And don't be ashamed-- God will come running, glad to help!
