Epiphany: A Time to Remember Your StarMinimize

Today is Epiphany in the Christian tradition. It is the day when the scripture about the wise men visiting the baby Jesus is read. It is a day when we recall the story of these wise people from the east who followed a star to see Jesus. They left their homes, they left their families and they traveled, most scholars believe, for three years, one way, to see the baby. They saw a star and followed it.

I believe that the star of Epiphany still shines in each of our lives--it is whatever beckons us to move towards our passion. Our passion might be Christ, it might be some other spiritual path, it might be a new job calling to us, it might be making changes in our lives to become the people we are called to be. I don't know what your star is--but I know we all have one!

I encourage each of us to spend time this week thinking about whatever it is we are called to do and to be and to pray that whatever our star is, that we have the courage to move toward it.

How easy it would have been for these wise people to refuse to follow the star. How easy it would have been for them to start the journey and then decide it was too far, too difficult, or too demanding. But they focused on that star and it lead them to the most important moments in their lives.

Do you see your star? Follow it and trust that God would not lead you anywhere except to the place you need to be. Trust, follow and may we, like the wise people, find the most important things in life!
