| Holiday Stess? What can be done? | |

We promised we would not over schedule our days. But..here we are: too busy for any quiet time and overbooked. What happened?
I don't know. You don't know. It just happens. We get busy. Unexpected things happened that messed up even the best laid schedule and plans. So we are stressed, tired and still have so much to get done!
What can we do? Again, I have few answers. I guess we have to just stay up late and get it done.
But one thing I think we can do is try and not take the stress out on those we love. It is easy, when we are stressed and tired, to release it on those who we love the most. I know this is not new news to any of you, but I think we need to be reminded. Stress is part of the holidays. So stop resisting and fighting it and simply accept it as a part of our lives right now.
By accepting it, we acknowledge it and name our reality. Then when we start to loose it, we can stop and ask ourselves: Am I really upset at my (child, spouse, friend) right now, or is my stress causing this? By stopping and asking ourselves that simple question we are less likely to dump our stress where we don't want to.
Before we say an angry word...before we rant and rave about not having help...before we punish our children for doing things we normally would not punish them for...may we have the wisdom to name our stress, accept it, expect it, and stop and pause before we express it in inappropriate places or take it out on our kids.
I wish the holidays wouldn't get so full of stress..maybe next year?? But this year, let's be careful and thoughtful before we relieve our stress those we love the most. There really is very little we can do at this point with the stress, but we can control where and when we express it!
