Simple Gifts: Tools to helping Children Notice GodMinimize

My husband and I were visiting the Denver Art Museum. It was one of the most kid friendly museums I have been to. Each child was given a kit that had a sketchbook and colored pencils in it, magnifying glasses to look closely at the artwork with, and a game sort of like BINGO where the child would look for certain pieces of art and then mark it off on their card.

In each room of the museum there were parents assisting their children to really look at the art and to do the activities in the kit.

I love art museums and have been to many different ones. Usually the children are rushing past the art and parents are correcting them and fussing at them. But this was different. Parents and children were stopping and looking at the art and discussing what it was and how it made the child feel.

The kits were what made the difference. They gave the parents tools to help their children notice and appreciate the beauty of the art.

Our Simple Gifts ideas (located under resources) are created to serve a similar purpose. These cards are simple activities parents can use at home with children to help them slow down and notice God. They are a tool I have created to help children slow down, focus on God and enjoy being in God's presence.

Many parents and grandparents would love to assist their children and grand children in noticing God but aren't sure where to begin. These ideas are a starting place. And...don't be afraid to repeat the activities. Children love repetition and each time they do an activity, the more they discover about their relationship with God.

I hope you use and enjoy the Simple Gifts and that they bring much holiness and joy to the children in your life!
