Where the Wild Things AreMinimize

I went to see the movie, "Where the Wild Things Are" last night and I have to tell you that I am not sure it is a movie for kids. I love the book and was expecting a magical trip into the fantasy world of a little boy. What I experienced was very painful as I watched a very disturbed little boy run away from home and enter a world of creatures who were exaggerated images of his personality.

I think the point of the movie was to remind us that healing happens as we look at ourselves in the mirror and face the reality of who we really are... the good and the bad... the nice and the ugly... the person we wish to be and the person we really are. That is great... for adults! But for children, this movie is too much!

Too much violence (they have a dirt clod war that reminded me of the war in Iraq... literally!), too much anger (in real life this child would need to be medicated!), too serious (the little boy does not play in place where the wild things are... but fights for his life!), too stereotypic (of course the family is broken through divorce as if ALL kids of divorce have huge issues and children whose parents stay married do not have any issues... kids have anger issues for all kinds of issues...) & too adult for kids!

I invite you to see the movie... it really did make me think, but I just don't think it is good for kids. I mean it is rated PG, not G, and it lives up to it's PG rating.

So I do not like Twilight because I think it sends a wrong message for girls and I don't think this movie is good for kids... hummm... maybe I am just grumpy... but I just think Kids need to see things that build them up...strengthen their spirits... and let them enjoy life... there is too much darkness in our world...I pray that we will find books and movies that bring light and hope to our kids... let me know of you find some!

Interesting review and in complete agreement with this one from the USCCB: http://www.usccb.org/movies/w/wherethewildthingsare.shtml

Rather than being grumpy, you are unaffected by all of the hype and popular opinion forced on us by the media. Keep up the good work!
